SUSTAINABILITY
Our shared purpose at Polgoon is to create high quality products using the best locally sourced ingredients, whilst doing as little damage to our environment as we possibly can. We take great care in preserving our place on the planet and considering our impact, working as a team to ensure that you enjoy it as much as we do.
Where possible in the Vineyard and orchard we create wildlife corridors for the flora and fauna that surrounds us. Approximately 40% of the land is natural habitats including two ponds that create habitats for marine animals and allows for a water source for the terrestrial biodiversity.
Polgoon has incredible biodiversity ranging from honey bees to a family of green woodpeckers.Another great feature at Polgoon is our bees. Although bees are not needed to pollinate our vines (they are self-pollinating), we know how important they are to the world as a whole and we are lucky enough to have 6 working bee hives on site.
Polgoon has a strict recycling policy; we work closely with our customers and external teams to ensure we reduce transport and unnecessary packaging. Our close connection to the land and the sea, means that everyone at Polgoon has a love and appreciation for the environment where we’re lucky enough to live and work. Following an initiative with Surfers Against Sewage and Plastic Free Penzance, we have tried to remove as much plastic as we possibly can from all areas of our business and we were subsequently awarded Plastic Free Status in January 2018 (read about it here). We also recycle our grape and apple pressing waste into food for the cows that live on the farm next door!
Our shop and Sunday Markets are filled with products from local businesses, buying local reduces transport miles and also helps the economy! We have also swapped to reusable tote bags so you can stock up .
